Could you offer support and advice to an emerging practitioner in the cultural and heritage sector?

We’re starting a second round of mentoring under the See It To Be It scheme and would like to hear from experienced professionals working in the arts or museums and galleries who might be able to help shape the development of young (up to 30 years old) practitioners.

A mentor in the last round said:

“I gained from being part of the process, as well as being able to impart learning to my mentee. I think that trying to help another fellow creative allowed the space to reflect on my own practice too. Also, it’s nice feeling part of an extended group (the whole mentoring cohort) who are all supportive of one another and keen to learn”

And one of the mentees reported:

“Firstly, I’ve secured a job in my desired sector doing the type of work I wanted to do! Second, it has helped me develop how I describe and deploy my practice, and given me confidence and knowledge to start pursuing my own projects in the near future”

This time the process will be:

  • We’ll assemble a ‘slate’ of suitable and available mentors
  • we’ll invite people to apply to be mentored, asking them to explain what they’d hope to get out of it, and to identify which mentor(s) they think would be suitable for them
  • We’ll then match up 6 pairs of mentors + mentees
  • we’ll have an introductory session in w/b 7th December for all involved, exploring what mentoring means, clarifying expectations, establishing ground rules &c – and getting to know each other
  • mentors and mentees will have a one hour, one-to-one meeting each month from January to June 2027, alternating in-person and telephone/zoom calls (this can be re-negotiated to fit the needs and circumstances of each pair – but this is the expectation of time commitment)
  • there’ll be a mid-way meeting for everyone to check progress and address any issues
  • there’ll be a final plenary for all involved – in person, early/mid July 2027

We would be able to pay for your time and cover reasonable travel expenses.

We can’t guarantee that we’ll find a mentee to match with you, but if you might be interested in offering mentoring to a suitable mentee, please complete this short online form BY MONDAY 26TH OCTOBER
